Last day of snag golf

On Thursday it was the last day for snag golf with our coach Hugh. Hugh was teaching us how to do big shots on the grass. He said to don’t lift your left foot up but your right foot should twist and stand on its toes. He also said to turn your shoulders, bend your wrists and your right hand should be on the bottom of the club and your left hand should be on the top. When you swing your putt it is very important to follow through with the ball so that the ball will go up high and far.When you swing the ball you eye must be on the ball at all times. It took a few attempts but I was able to hit it up high and far more than 5 times. I think that I am horrible at golf because I only hit the ball high and far 5 times.

How do you like your corn?

For the last few weeks Room 8 studied “corn maths”. We did our survey on how do you like your corn in Room 8 and we also added a few of other teachers names on the survey.

I used “create a graph online” to draw a pie graph and a bar graph.

I did a few attempts until I got it right. I would definitely like to do this program again because I really enjoyed using it. Next I will like to learn how to divide 3 digit numbers.

Estimation maths

In room 8 we were learning estimation of many parts of a cob of corn. My partners were Camillie and Margaret. I found the learning challenging because we kept on wild guessing and our estimation was no where near the answer. The skills you need to know for estimation is to use tidy numbers and rounding off. I think that working in a group is much easier because you have more people to help you with anything you have difficulties with. Next I would like to learn how to convert fractions to decimals.

Path of maize of New Zealand

I believe that Captain Cook and European explorers brought maize to New Zealand.

The climate in New Zealand is good for planting maize and the time which maize should be planted is in September to February because the weather is warmer and corn requires tropical weathers.

Back in the old days people traded maize for crops and that was how they shared maize to each other.

The uses of corn In New Zealand today are to feed animals, to put in cereals and for humans to eat.

Flip a chip

Flip a chip is a very fun game to play it helps me to understand what affixes are and it also helps me with my reading. It was difficult going from page to page because it gets harder and harder but I managed to complete all of the exercises.

Speed skills

Today for maths I did speed skills. This game is about subtraction and addition. you have to finish it before your time wastes and you only get 1 minute. My score was 35. It was was easy to move from page to page but I did not finish the whole thing because I ran out of time.

Making class rules with room 7

 I definitely think that we should have class rules because without class rules there can be a fight and the fight can start by swearing and not respecting others. I also think that I we should have class rules because if people can not respect their teachers then they will have to face the consequences.  Room 7 and room 8 met at the hall to make the class rules for both of our class and they are the same. Miss Ramkolowan gave us 5 minutes to write what we think should be the class rules but by ourselves.The after that we got into groups of 2 then 4 and then 8 and we had to tick the rules that were common. After that miss Ramkolowan pointed to a group and who ever she pointed to has to give one rule that everyone had in common. Then after a while we had to huddle back with our group and chose the ones that we wanted to stay as our rule and the ones that we didn’t want as a rule.

 The easiest rule to follow is use your manners, use inside voice in the classroom, always try your hardest, follow teacher's instructions and Think twice before you do something.The rules that are hard to follow are keep on task, be a role model and keep the class clean at all times. I think that the consequences should be detention, sent home, picking up rubbish or calling their parents.
