P.E - Social Responsibility

For today's lesson of P.E we played moon ball and bench dodge-ball. We split into two team, yellow & green, and played game after game. As we played we had to think about what level of social responsibility we were in. Social responsibility is your attitude & values in making good/responsible choices. This also leads to your behavior toward your learning (physical and health education) and outside your learning. My partner (Lani) and I felt that we were more based on level two then level 1 or 0. Although we started off a bit negative with our choice of words we managed to move up and pass that and fall into level 2, the involvement level. We both feel like that we could improve our skills to level five by working our way up. We can start by working on the level three ("Self-Responsibility"). We can start from makes good choices cause we feel that we show respect to the people in our class and work our way down the list. Although we already filled most of the stages in level three we will focus more on the ones we don't.

Sharing my learning in year 10 science

For the past few weeks we have been learning a lot in science. Like the nutrients and their functions and even reflected about our environment that is wrapped around us everyday. For my environment I did:
1. People/Family/Friends
2. Physical Spaces
3. Church (Mormon)
4. Sports
5. School
6. Art (Sketch)
These were the things that I am surrounded by everyday and that had an effect on me, they are also my values. These six important things that I value are apart of my environment.

1. People/Family/Friends
I see my family everyday, I am surrounded by them out and inside of school.

2. Physical Spaces
I go to the park on Saturday's wit my family. It's my way of distracting myself from the WiFi and spending more time with my family.

3. Church (Mormon)
I go to church on Sunday's, it has an effect on me because as a Mormon their are certain things that we can and can't do, but it is completely our choice. It's like a test everyday.

4. Sports
I play sports at school (P.E & Brake Times). It's my way of keeping active and distracting myself from the games online and being lazy.

5. School
My learning takes part at school in the classrooms from Monday to Friday. It has an effect on me because I go to school to learn and expand my knowledge.

6. Art (Sketch)
Art is important to me because it's an amazing gift to me and it's my way of keeping the family tradition alive.

The class and I also learnt about the six nutrients. Our teacher (Ms Wells) set a slide with questions and gave us the decision to pick one out of the six nutrients. We were put into groups of two or three, There was only two of us in my group (Whitney & I). She gave us about 30 minutes to complete the slides with the questions so that we could present it in front of the class. My group took the topic of unsaturated fats and oils. We completed the slides, but some of our data was incorrect. We found that doing this in groups was easier than doing the work separately. My partner and I enjoyed it and found it interesting because we found out things we never knew before. I hope to do this again and next I would like to learn more about the six nutrients.

Metal Works Techknology

For the past few weeks of metal works technology our class had a choice to do either a pizza cutter or cake server. I chose a cake cutter because it could be useful in my house. This took me a bit of time to make it, but I finally finished it on time and now I get to take it home. This was an amazing experience and I enjoyed every bit of it. I am happy of the outcome and glad to take it home. I found this easy to do because I got help from my teacher, Mr Naicker.

1080 Poison

1080 Poison
I think that using 1080 in the forest to solve pests or predator problems is bad because it kills native animals especially the kiwis who are already endangered. Using 1080 poison will just destroy the kiwis for good. In the article is says  "not only should the use of 1080 continue (including in aerial operations) to protect our forests, but that we should use more of it". I think that this is bad and the it should end now because it may help the forest but not the animals.

The Role Of Government

The role of the parliament are:
1. They decide how tax money is spent
2. They make new laws/Make amendments to previous/old laws
3. They represent the people
These three jobs help control chaos and help educate kids by helping supply schools.

If I were in parliament how would I spend the ta money?
I would spend the tax money usefully. I would use it on making things safe for us people. Spend it on schools for kids to learn and even spend it on companies that aren't as big as McDonald's or Nike so that people that don't get paid enough could get money to help provide for their families or themselves. I would help build more houses for the homeless.

Cybersmart

Being Cybersmart

Being cybersmart means to be smart online. For example you see something online that you don’t like has posted, so you go and comment something idiotic or not nice. That is not being cybersmart. If you see something that someone you don’t like has posted and you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. It is always important to be cybersmart no matter what, because it  could affect your future life. For example when you post something stupid or being racist online. You could go for a job interview and they look up your name and see how idiotic you were online. You could lose your job. So leave a positive digital footprint.

What I Learnt About Being Cybersmart
Through the past few weeks our teacher (Miss Paketama) has taught us about cybersmart I have learnt a lot of Things. I learnt:

  1. Not being cybersmart online could affect your future life
  2. Being cybersmart can save your life
  3. Being cybersmart can leave/save you with a good reputation

I also learnt that being cybersmart online is way on not to hurt people because the outcome could be bad. I can apply these things to my life just in case I do something online that is immature or not right then I can think about these things and it’ll help me do the right thing.

What You Can Do To Help Yourself If You Are Getting Bullied
If you are a person that is getting bullied there are many reasons on how to deal with it, instead of letting it happen or fighting them. I can:

  1. Talk to the bully & sort things out with that person
  2. You can report the bully
  3. Or tell a teacher or someone mature enough to handle it
There are many ways on helping yourself instead of retaliating or getting into a fight because that could go very bad because you will get hurt or the other person will or you could get suspended. It could happen either way so be the bigger person or be mature enough to handle it either by talking to the bully, reporting them or telling someone (teacher or adult).

How To Help Your Friend If They Are Being Bullied
When your friend is being bullied you’ll be angry and would want to beat the bully up, but that could lead to some bad consequences. You could help your friend by talking to them, go with them to tell a teacher or adult, talk to the bully, give them good advice or even try and get them to go to the counsellor or social worker. This way you won’t get into a bad situation.

How To Help The Bully Stop
It’s a choice to be a bully and you can stop being a bully. A person could be a bully because they have family issues, no friends, they could have been bullied in their family therefore he/she takes their anger out on other people or the person could bully people because it makes him/her feel big/strong. Sometimes it takes time and sometimes it takes a person to change a bully. Helping a bully stop what they are doing can include:

  1. Talking to them and listening to them
  2. Comforting them
  3. Supporting him/her through what they are going through
  4. Being their friend & showing him/her the right way to do things
  5. Giving them advice
  6. Giving them attention/showing compassion
  7. Or even trying to get him/her to go to the counselor or social worker

These are things that could help change a bully. It may take time but at least it works because doing this is like saving people's lives who are afraid to stand up. You are basically doing them a favor or more like having integrity.

 How To Become Cybersmart
Being cybersmart isn’t that difficult. It just means to be smart/sensible online. To elaborate on that being cybersmart online include:

  1. Only add people you know
  2. Don’t talk to strangers
  3. Don’t give to much information or detail about you or your family
  4. Don’t post inappropriate things online
  5. DO NOT MEET WITH A STRANGER ALONE OR AT ALL!
  6. Do not bully people online
  7. Do not catfish (Being someone your not online) others
  8. Or even give your password to anyone including your friends

Things like this could help you be smart/sensible online. Being cybersmart is very important due to the fact that it could affect your future life and it could save your life to. So before you press share, post or send THINK.

Plastic Bag Ban

Image result for Jacinda Ardern
Plastic bag bans was a decision made by the one and only Jacinda Ardern. I agree to the fact that she has band plastic bags. I think that it'll have a big impact on the people and animals and the environment. Banding plastic would help with the less pollution, it'll help stop animals from eating it and it'll change the behaviour of the people, because they would have to think before they go out shopping. I approve this decision on banning plastic bags.

Hungarian Migration to New Zealand

Today I presented a presentation that my partner (Siunipa) and I worked on. Our presentation was about Hungarians migrating to New Zealand. In my presentation I wrote that one of the push reasons on why Hungarians migrated to New Zealand was to get away from the war that was happening and to help provide for their families by getting a job. The pull reason was that they felt the need to give back/help Hungarians on what they are going through. Presenting in front of the class was say for me because I've did this before and because I have talked to all of them, therefore I thought of presenting in front of my class was easy/not nervous. My social studies teacher thought that my partner and I projected our voices very well because the class and her could hear us properly.

Migration Model

On the bottom is my migration model. This diagram shows the movement of Tokelau and New Zealand. They could migrate because of something positive or bad. This is called a push and pull reason. A push reason means a negative reason for migrating. A pull reason means a positive reason for moving. For example. You could migrate from one country to another to escape the the climate change, because the water is taking over their place/houses. You could also migrate from one country to the other for a better future for your family. This is called a pull reason, because your migrating for a positive reason. This diagram also shows the mainstream flow. This is represented by big arrow which means the people leaving than coming back, that is why the arrow on top is bigger than the bottom. The counter-stream flow represents the people leaving and not coming back, that is why it is small. For example people might migrate from Tokelau to New Zealand. That is called a mainstream flow. People might migrate to New Zealand and not return back to Tokelau, where their from. That is called a counter-stream flow. This diagram also talks about place of origin and place of destination. Place of origin means where you originated/born. Place of destination means where you migrated/travelled to. The diagram also talks about obstacles, which represents something that stops you from migrating. That could be because you can’t afford, you have a visa problem or you can’t leave your family.

9MUS/JPA Performance Practice

For the past few days we have been preparing our performance that will be show cased in front of an audience (class). While preparing for our 'show case' I have learnt a couple of things like the keys on the keyboard and how to play ode to the joy. Next week I will need to carry on learning a song on the piano for our performance.

Tokelau

Today we learnt more about Tokelau. We read and answered questions that were linked into the article. I really enjoyed learning more new things about Tokelau like the recieve 2,500 mm a year of rainfall. I also learnt that the strongest atoll out of the three is Fakaofo. I found this work easy to do and interesting. Next I hope to learn more about Tokelau.

Climate Change

Climate change basically means the weather changing. Climate change is caused by gases, oil and coal. When they burn it, it leads to greenhouse gases. These types of gases trap the heat in the air which makes the temperature rise. Climate change can been found around the world but in a story I read the places that were affected were the Maldives & Venice. The people in the Maldives are being threatened by the sea levels rising, due to the climate change. The same is happening to Venice. They are also being threatened by losing land, due to climate change and sea levels rising. The rising of sea levels is caused by by the melting of ice glaciers Climate refugees are forced to flee their houses because their houses are underwater.

Trip back to Tokelau

It was a good morning as the sun just woke from it’s deep slumber. I was disturbed from the sound of splashes as the boat punch through them. As I rub my eyes I see the beautiful island of Tokelau and noticed the seawalls but that didn’t bother me. I was still thrilled to be back in my homeland. I see my family as the boat gets closer to the island. The feeling of joy hits me. I quickly pack my things and wait for the boat to park. Not going to lie as I sat down waiting for the boat to park I wondered if there was any change since I left oversea for my education. I wondered if Tokelau was still the same.

As I was thinking a lady enters the room and kindly asks us to exit the boat. My heart is beating out of my chest. I stand up and exit the boat and see my family with the biggest smile on their faces. I dashed towards them and give them the biggest hug ever. After all the hugging and crying It was finally time to go home.

I jumped on the back of the truck as my dad starts the engine. As we were heading home I noticed a few new changes. Like the fact that people have tv's, computers, fridges, global warming, shops are now selling food that are imported, they are now using solar power and most important there is electricity. Everything was becoming modern. I didn’t have problem with things changing but what I did have problem with was that everything might change and people might start to forget the Tokelauan traditions. It was a bit of a worry to me, but I told myself that I need to focus more on my family and education.

As the days go by I was finally getting use to the changes that were made. Not going to lie at first I found it hard accepting and getting use the changes, but I figured that I was going to accept it or get use to it in the future.

Maths

For the past three weeks we have been learning about expressions, equations and variables. I know that a expression is a sum with no equal sign. For e.g:
2 + 2

I also know that a equation is a sum with a equal sign. For e.g:
2 + 2 = 4

I also know that a variable is a letter that represents a changing value. For e.g:
A number minus 3
= n - 3

To increase our knowledge on algebra we played games on education perfect. I think that I am getting the hang of it but I still need a bit of help, so next I would like to learn more about variables.

Tokelau

                                                            Tokelau

By watching the video I know that Tokelauans face some challenges. First of all they have to make some hard decisions. A small family is having a hard time thinking about if they will let their child/ren take up scholarships overseas and if they are will they go with her/his child/ren. This is not only for this small family but for the others. If I was in this position I would let my child/ren go and I’ll stay back to take care of my parents. They could come and visit in the holidays. That way my child/ren could have a better future.

Another challenge people have to face was to do with their job. A woman migrated back to Tokelau. She returned because she felt the need to give back to her people for what they did to her. When she came back she found it challenging to adapt with to Tokelauan traditions. She also found it hard finding a job as a policewoman because the elders that run the Island think that women have certain jobs. She then got her job as a policewoman.

Another challenge they faced was losing their land. In the video it shows the small Island of Fakaofo in the village of Fale. They talk about how their village is eroding. To prevent that from happening they built a seawall out of rocks to survive. Unfortunately the village had a beach but then lost it due to erosion.

These are the challenges they face from making hard decisions to preventing their village from eroding. If I had to deal with these challenges it wouldn't be easy. I did learn something from watching this video and it was to appreciate what we receive in the present and in the days to come and that we are not the only ones dealing with difficult challenges.

Social Studies - Key Concepts

Today I learnt about two new Social Studies concepts, sustainability and modernisation.

The first concept sustainability means Sustainability is basically to sustain something or in more specific words to keep something in a certain level. An example of this concept is preventing a animal from being extinct by protecting its environment.

The second social studies concept modernisation means modernisation is when you use something that was recent. Like in the olden days back before your parents were born they use to cook their food by making a hangi, but now and days they use stoves. An example of this concept could be using a tool that was recent like google maps to find your destination.

Diwali

Image result for DiwaliImage result for diwali fireworks
My tradition that I chose to present for social studies was Diwali. I chose to research this tradition because I first heard about Diwali at my old school and always wanted to know more about it. Diwali is also known as the festival of lights because they decorate their houses with lights and candles. They also celebrate by lighting up fireworks especially firecrackers. It could last until 12 in the morning. I personally got to experiences Diwali at my old school by drawing a rangoli pattern outside of my class door. This is sustained in New Zealand because nearly every year they have a festival to celebrate Diwali in New Zealand. Presenting my presentation was easy, but not gonna lie at first I was nervous but then moving from slide to slide I gained more confidence. The thing I need to work on while presenting is to give more eye contact.

Hot Cakes

For today's lesson we made hot cakes. To make this you will need:
1. ½ a cup of S.R.F
2. ½ a cup of sugar
3. 1 cup of milk
4. 1 egg
My partner (Whitney) and I followed the instructions correctly. We enjoyed making the hot cakes and eating it. This is definitely one of my favourite lessons. I will definitely consider making this at home.

Science

The term is nearly over and for the past few weeks my class and I learnt about the science lab safety rules, layers of the earth, tectonic plates, earthquakes and volcanoes. I enjoyed learning all of these things and they could defiantly could be helpful in the future.

Maths

For today's maths we played games that linked to converting fractions, decimals and percentages. I learnt this last year so this was more of consolidating my knowledge. I did enjoy learning this again but playing the game was my best part of the lesson. I would like to learn more about converting fractions, decimals and percentages so that I can be able to solve the problem fast and answer it quickly.

Learning - Science

For the past few weeks in science we have been learning about the Earth’s layers and volcanoes.

We first learnt about the layers of the Earth. I know that the Earth has four layers they are called the Crust, Mantle, Outer Core and Inner Core. I also know that the continents were all together but then split and moved away to their present positions because of the plate tectonic. We also learnt about the three boundaries. They are called the convergent boundary, divergent boundary and transform boundary. Convergent boundary is when two plates meet creating mountains and trenches. Divergent boundary is when two plates move away from each other. Transform boundary is when two plates slide past each other creating earthquakes.

Then we learnt about volcanoes. We learnt about the hotspot and where it is located. I know that the hotspot is located on the Pacific plate. Then we learnt about the types of volcanoes. There is a cone volcano, the composite volcano and the shield volcano. I know that when two plates converge it creates a mountain then the magma from the mantle and is stored in the magma chamber. One day the volcano will erupt and the magma that is stored in the magma chamber will then come out.

This is what my class and I learnt together for the past few weeks. We learnt about the Earth’s layers and volcanoes. We did enjoy our time learning about the Earth’s layers and volcanoes. My class and I learnt a lot from our two science teachers(Ms Kuruvilla & Mr Desoysa).

1. 1 ½ cup of S.R flour
2. ½ cup of sugar
3. ⅓ cup of coco
4. 1 egg
5. 1 cup of milk
The cupcakes were mouth-watering. I will definitely consider making this at home. I hope to do this for our next cooking lesson.

Made In Taiwan Documentary

For the past few days we watched a couple of videos about to guys(Oscar and Nathan) going on trips to experience and find out more about their ancestors. They were looking at the Lapita pottery. They discovered that the patterns were similar to any other culture. They saw that the pattern on the pottery was similar to the pattern on Oscar’s tattoo. They found that the language is similar, they dance moves were similar and they also had similar dance moves. The thing I found interesting was that the Taiwan culture had similar tattoos on their face to the Maoris. I think that there trip was successful because they found out what they needed to know.

Learning for the week

For the past few weeks we have been learning about fractions, decimals and integers. I really enjoyed learning how to solve problems using these skills. I thought that integers was the hardest one to learn. I am still a bit confused about if it's addition it goes lower and if it's subtraction it's the opposite. Next I would like to learn more about integers to consolidate my knowledge about it. This would be helpful during testing.

Today we made multi coloured muffins. The ingredients needed are:
  • 1 ½ cup of S.R.F
  • ⅓ cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of milk
  • ¼ cup of oil

My partner (Whitney) and I worked together and made twelve successful and delicious green muffins. We both enjoyed making and eating this and we both hope to do it again.

Where did the Polynesians come from?

Some people have there own theories on where us polynesians are from and some people think that they polynesians came from somewhere else. These are my two theories that I am comparing and the first is Hawaikii. The evidence shown that us polynesians originally came from Hawaikii was found by Oriwa Haddon. Oriwa Haddon found evidence that proved we were originally from Hawaikii. He found that the names of places were similar, that there traditions were similar, the boats were similar and the stories were the same. The second theory is South America Thor Heyerdahl also found evidence from where us polynesians were originally from, but he believes that we were from South America. Him and a couple of guys went on a boat called the Kon Tiki on a journey to prove that us polynesians were originally from South America. Thor Heyerdahl had a lot of evidence but the main evidence that stood out to me were that the wind and ocean currents from the east may have pushed travellers to the pacific and they proved this by constructing a boat called the Kon tiki and went on that boat to Raroia to an island in Eastern Polynesia. They arrived there in April 28 1947. I think that us Polynesian came from South America because he had more evidence and I found his evidence powerful.
